GROUP ★★
"Group", directed and written by William R.A. Rush, aims to be a drama with touches of horror and black humor, but falls short on all fronts. The cast, though competent, fails to elevate the material to its full potential. Even so, many of the performances are noteworthy. The exploration of addiction is superficial, and additional themes are touched on tangentially and without depth.
The confinement to a single room limits the visual and narrative possibilities, slowing down the pace considerably. The flashback scenes don't quite convince the viewers. It becomes slow and the rhythm is lost. The good cinematography, color and lighting of this film should be highlighted.
The final plot twist and the violent outcome are gratuitous and incoherent with the overall tone of the film, bewildering the viewer. On the other hand, the sound is good, despite the fact that the film could have been executed in another way.
In conclusion, "Group" is a failed film that does not live up to the expectations it generates. It has too many clichés and doesn't add anything new to the genre. Only recommended for completists of low-budget cinema.
